The Stage 2 Disinfection Byproduct Rule (DBPR) and the Long Term 2 Enhanced Surface WaterTreatment Rule (LT2ESWTR) were promulgated in the Federal Register on January 4, 2006, andJanuary 5, 2006, respectively. These rules have multiple urgent requirements, including therequirement for utilities to do an initial distribution system evaluation (IDSE), disinfectionbenchmarking, and source water monitoring. This paper focuses on the aspects of theseregulations that must be implemented early. Utility examples are used to illustrate the regulatoryrequirements. Includes tables, figure.
