This slide presentation outlines a study on affordable desalination. Project goals included: demonstrate affordable desalinationusing off-the-shelf technology; create a body of data that can guideand benefit future seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) designs; and,promote seawater desalination as anaffordable, viable source of freshwater. Background is given on: desalination energy requirements; California water supply energy requirements; and, California water supply and treatment costs. Information is outlined on the US Navy Test Facility atPort Heuneme, California, along with testing protocol, test parameters and data collection, cost estimating procedures, and quality control.
