This slide presentation outlines a study on radio frequency (RF) characteristics and their impact on automatic meter reading (AMR) system performance. Line of sight (LOS) propagation and factors affecting LOS communications are discussed, including: free-space attenuation;absorption; reflection; diffraction;scattering; transmitter power; receiver sensitivity; and,antenna design and configuration. Installation and meter reading tips are given.
