A training protocol based on pursuing optimization activities at water and wastewater plants overmultiple years has been developed to allow operators and managers at small and medium-sizedutilities to achieve the full capability and performance potential of their existing facilities. Theprotocol has been piloted in three different states and at 21 utilities. Documented performanceimprovement was achieved, with 18 of the 21 utilities gaining compliance with the Long Term 1Interim Enhanced Surface Water Treatment Rule.
