A university used its thermal loops to study the applicability of the expansion tank sizing formulas in the 2016 ASHRAE Handbook--HVAC Systems and Equipment to existing large district systems. The result is a useful guide for design engineers and plant personnel to design and maintain expansion tanks in large district thermal loops.
