The thermal properties of three coatings used in industrial applications as thermal insulation to reduce heat loss or gain have been measured using ASTM C 335 and the laser flash technique. The thermal conductivity (apparent thermal conductivity) and heat-flux reduction relative to bare steel pipe were measured in accordance with C 335 while thermal diffusivity, thermal conductivity, and specific heat were obtained using the laser flash technique and a differential scanning calorimeter (DSC, ASTM E1269). The coatings that were tested in this project were commercial products that were applied to test pipes by the manufacturer in two cases and by a contractor supervised by RD Services, Inc. in one case. The results will be reported using identifiers A, B, and C.
