The need to optimize fan selections for limitations in available space and ever increasing design fire requirements challenge equipment manufacturers to design equipment suitable for both normal ventilation and the high temperature emergency smoke management environment. The convergence of higher temperature ratings, cyclic loading and variable frequency drives results in design and application considerations becoming much more complex. This paper explores the application issues and resultant design considerations related to emergency smoke management and ventilation fans used inunderground transit applications.
