Presents a case study of a 1997 ASHRAE Technology Award-wining detached house in North Carolina with high ceilings and large glass windows, designed to have heating and cooling bills of less than $100 a month. Describes how the 'Total Systems Design Approach' met requirements for energy efficiency for the two-storey, 6,463 ft² house and improved indoor air quality without sacrificing comfort.
