Californiaâs power supply crisis in 2000 alerted the energy industry to the problem of summer peak power supply. Merchant plant developers initiated major capacity expansions, which were expected to solve the problem. However, recent concerns on Wall Street about the energy industry have placed many of these new power plants projects in doubt, and reignited concerns about limited peak summer power supply.
