Considers some design options to illustrate the importance of the interaction between all members of the design team and the importance of considering the operation, maintenance and running costs in addition to capital cost. Among the design options considered with examples are - alternative fuels (for the Irish Republic), centralised vs. decentralised plant, building shapes, plant space, structural solutions and air conditioning systems.
