The correlation between user behavior and building performance, which is exceedingly important for passive buildings, has not been analytically studied to a degree where guidance can be made available to design teams at the concept design stage. This study attempts to start filling this gap by evaluating multiple scenarios of varying relationships between the climate, functional requirements and occupant behavior in a passive building utilizing parametric computer simulation tools. The paper presents a matrix of passive strategies for various climates that also identifies the effectiveness of each strategy based on a range of operational parameters.
