Discusses the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) refrigerator-freezer model, demonstrating its limitations for simulating refrigerator performance under off-design conditions. Presents the results of an experimental study conducted with a nominal 18ft³ capacity top-mount refrigerator-freezer. Demonstrates improvements available from simple two and three zone models of the evaporator and condenser.
