An observational study of actual surgical wound temperatures was undertaken using infrared thermography. The procedures, details, and general results are presented herein. Average surgical wound temperature was found to be around 85°F (29°C) in standard operating room conditions with standard operating room lights. Pending further investigation, this nominal value is recommended for use in future operating room air flow studies including experimental studies and CFD simulations.
