Describes research which has led to the development of a segmented linear least-squares modelling procedure that can be readily programmed on a digital computer for deriving continuous single-input, single-output component models for HVAC equipment. States the procedure was developed using actual HVAC performance data and can handle non-linear operating ranges, saturation regions and hysteresis. Transient and multi-input, multi-output models can also be developed by rationally combining the input and output variables.
