Presents a detailed literature survey of data on nucleate boiling on enhanced surface geometries, including finned surfaces and 'structured' and 'porous coated' enhanced surface geometries. The base surface geometries of interest include horizontal tubes and plates. Finds 61 references that report boiling data. Provides tables identifying the surface geometries, specific refrigerants and boiling pressures for which data exist. Discusses work to develop analytically-based models to explain the mechanism of the boiling process on enhanced surfaces. Offers suggestions for an approach to develop a mechanistically based model of the boiling mechanism on enhanced surfaces.
